RICHARD PRINCE

Prince is an American painter and photographer who has been copying other photographs since 1975. These controversial methods has even resulted in him being sued for copyright on some of his most recent projects, for example on his Instagram project where he would take photos that have been published and show them in a gallery. The argument with this however is that once an image is posted on Instagram the publisher no longer owns the photo.

My Images

This part of the module focused on image appropriation, this is the manipulation of a current object or image to then give it a completely different meaning . These images were taken from a simple Google image search.

Priorities
This is an image showing how we priorities the wrong things and should be focusing a lot more on trying to make change within the more unfortunate parts of the world. ‘Yeezus’ paired with Adidas to create a very expensive set of trainers, this money instead could of been used to help people suffering in poverty in ways like giving them a new pair of shoes.

Moss
To me this image indicates the drastic and life threatening procedures that models such as Kate Moss will go through to get to the skinny looking image that so many young people aspire to be like. Kate had a nickname called ‘The Tank’, this was because she would consume large amounts of cocaine on a regular basis to keep up with the model figure as well as the tiresome and media fuelled lifestyle that comes with it. In this image you can also see how tired and run down she is which may have been a result to this drug use.Original Image
Vanity
This is a sculpture of the Greek god Apollo. During the time that this would have been created there would have been no existence whatsoever of electronic devices, so the way in which people or in this case gods were remembered was through the use of statues. These beautiful and elegant models showed that these gods were adored by many. However by placing a mobile device in his hand it gives the impression he is taking a ‘selfie’ and doing it for his own self ego.Original Image

  1. The writer and director of the film, Sofia Coppola, told that ?The Bling Ring? is based on the real-life story of a similar gang that used to target their glamour world celebrities online and then used to steal their precious belongings.
